Name: Ridge
We came up with this idea as both the Helenswood and Williams Parker site are located on The Ridge, a road in Hastings which is significantly higher than most, hence the name. However, we have recently come to notice that the name alone does not automatically make perfect sense. So this would have to be followed by a slogan making the connection more obvious.
Specification: Performing arts and Sport
We came up with the idea to merge the two schools specification as this would appeal to a larger audience. However, as this is meant to be a 'Specification' i.e. one thing, this may have to be changed later on.
Promotion
The promotion I would want my sixth form college to promote is a healthy, successful, organised lifestyle. (Note word LIFESTYLE, tells reader about the connection between education, students, teachers etc. Learning is not just for classrooms)
Headlines
- Former sixth form band get SIGNED
- Parkwoods Best Dressed
- WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
These headlines appeal to everyone the magazine is aimed. there is something there for everyone!
Along with the magazine being appealing to students because they are interested in the content, it also advertises the school as being an equal opportunity, active, creative and well rounded community.
Colour Themes In my group we came up with the idea to make every issue have a theme matching the seasons. I think that this would be a nice idea because it would be constantly changing. This would keep people interested and refreshed with each issue. For this I am going to be focusing in on the AUTUMNAL issue. This would contain autumnal colours and have the same feel throughout.
FONT
- Heading Font: For the font of the heading for the autumnal issue I want to use something rigid and rigid to go with the theme.
This is just a sample of a few fonts that are kind of what
I'm looking for just to give you a rough idea of the style.
- Slogan Font: For the slogan, I would like it to be either the same font as the heading but in italics, or a simpler font. I would like to do it this way because I do not want the slogan to detract from the heading, I want it to compliment it compositionally. And the best way of doing this is for it to match (but much smaller font) or for it to be in a simpler font. I am undecided on what i am going to change the slogan to at the moment so to sample it I'm just using Parkwoods current slogan.
Again, this is just a sample of what I am
thinking of doing for the font of the slogan.
All of the images will be taken on either the Helenswood or the William Parker site or will have students in the photos. I think it is necessary to advertise the actual school as oppose to picking photos that appear to relate to a subject, I think this makes the magazine very impersonal and then lacks the community feel which sixth form boast about.
